LAURENS COUNTY, SC : Coroner responding to crash on I-26W in Laurens Co. on Wednesday, 31st July 2024
One person died and another was injured in a crash and vehicle fire on I-26 westbound near mile marker 55 on Wednesday afternoon.
Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say that the driver of a Kenworth tractor trailer died after traveling off the right side of the road, hitting a pedestrian and a Ford pick-up truck before hitting a guard rail and going down an embankment. The tractor then caught on fire, according to the Lauren’s County Coroner’s Office.
The pedestrian was hospitalized, according to Highway Patrol.
The driver of the tractor trailer was identified by the coroner as Mark Anthony Bigby, 64, of Anderson. His cause of death was determined to be thermal burns, according to the coroner’s office.
Troopers say the crash remains under investigation.
