A truck driver was taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after his semi flipped and spilled sand across the highway, troopers say.
The wreck occurred around 5:45 a.m. in a construction zone on State Road 429 near mile marker 21 in Orange County.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Orlando Serrano Menendez, 43, of Minneola, was traveling north on SR 429 when the truck’s right tires went onto the shoulder, where there was a 10- to 12-inch drop off. Menendez steered back to the left, but the truck overturned and sand poured across the northbound lanes causing the highway to be shut down.
Menendez was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with minor injures.
The crash remains under investigation.
