FRENCH CAMP, CA : 2 children, 3 adults killed in suspected DUI crash on I-5 south of Stockton on Thursday, 11th March 2021

Five people, including two children, were killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 in French Camp, just south of Stockton, late Thursday night and investigators say the driver may have been impaired.

According to officers with California Highway Patrol’s Stockton branch, a person driving a 1997 Toyota vehicle was heading northbound on I-5 when the crash occurred just north of Roth Road around 11 p.m.

Crash investigators say the driver “made an unsafe turning movement” causing the vehicle to lose control and careen into a tree. Investigators believe alcohol and or drug impairment was a factor.

The driver, a 33-year-old man, and four passengers -- a 42-year-old woman and three passengers whose ages have not been released -- all died in the crash. Authorities say two of the passengers were children and the other was an adult. Their ages have not been released.

Investigators have not identified the victims' relationships with one another.

Three victims were pronounced dead at the scene and two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Investigators have not said if anyone else was in the car.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
