STATEN ISLAND, NY : A non-life-threatening ankle injury in a crash on Sunday, November, 19th 2017

A 47-year-old man who was thought to have suffered a non-life-threatening ankle injury in a crash on the Staten Island Expressway earlier this month has died from injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

Nevzat Shaqiri of the 80th block of Oswego Street in Sunnyside died on Nov, a day after the crash.

The medical examiner determined Shaqiri died due to injuries he sustained in the collision, police said.

According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that a 36-year-old female was inside of a disabled 2009 Chevy Traverse located on the eastbound side of the Staten Island Expressway at the Bradley Avenue exit when Shaqiri's 2013 Chevrolet Impala rear-ended the Traverse at approximately 11:45 p.m.

The 36-year-old woman was transported to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze with minor injuries.
