Cedar Falls, IA : Mourners say goodbye to eastern Iowa sheriff's deputy killed in crash while off-duty on Saturday afternoon August 8th 2015

Law enforcement officers gathered over the weekend to mourn a Black Hawk County sheriff's deputy who was killed in a traffic crash.
Public safety officers from across eastern Iowa and other parts of the state came for the funeral service for 34-year-old Timothy Lee Petersen. Petersen was laid to rest Saturday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Waterloo, according to the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.
Petersen, of Waterloo, was killed last week when his Harley-Davidson motorcycle collided with a sport utility vehicle as it was pulling out onto the road. Petersen was not on duty at the time.
Mourners described him as a good friend, brother, husband and father who was passionate about law enforcement.
Uniformed officers gathered in silence outside the church along with other attendees prior to the morning service as family members filed into the sanctuary to the music of the hymn "How Great Thou Art."
Members of motorcycle honor guards, many wearing vests covered with patches, lined the sidewalk leading up to the church's front door, holding American flags. Inside, honor guards from the sheriff's office and other local public safety agencies stood at attention along the pathway to the sanctuary until their colleagues and other mourners had entered the church.
Petersen led "a life that has touched many," said the Rev. Larry McKinney, the sheriff's office chaplain. "If you don't believe that, this is Tim's legacy all around you."
The main floor of the church was packed, with additional people seated in the balcony.
