Clinton, NC : Sampson teen dies as result of wreck injuries on Friday, October, 6th 2017
A Sampson County teen has succumbed to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.Andrew Warren, 19, of Clinton, died Saturday afternoon following a single-vehicle accident Friday.
Warren, who was a graduate of Clinton High School, was a freshman at N.C. State and traveling home for a football game, when the accident occurred on Interstate 40, just a half mile into Sampson County and outside of Newton Grove.
Troopers and emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene at 2:16 p.m.
According to the investigating Highway Patrol officer, A. Smith, Warren was traveling east when his 2003 Ford Explorer ran off the left side of the road and the teen over-corrected. As a result, he then traveled across the road and down an embankment, striking a tree. Warren was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle.
Smith said Warren was transported to Wake Med in Raleigh by Sampson County paramedics and received a great deal of blunt force trauma to the head. Warren died as a result of those injuries sometime early Saturday afternoon.
This is the 9th fatality on Sampson County roadways in 2017.
