WILMINGTON, NC : Carolina Beach resident charged following alleged impaired crash on Tuesday, December 13th 2016

A 21-year-old man was arrested following an alleged impaired driving crash Tuesday night near the intersection of Pine and Grissom roads.

According to Trooper J. E. Moore with the State Highway Patrol, David Thomas Cole, Jr., of Carolina Beach, was traveling northbound on Grissom Road shortly after 9 p.m. when he drove his jeep off the right side of the road and hit a utility pole.

Cole’s vehicle overturned after hitting the pole, which was knocked down as a result of the collision. Approximately 1,500 people briefly lost power.

Troopers responded to the scene and charged Cole, who was not injured, with DWI, careless and reckless driving, possession of a schedule II substance, possession of a schedule IV substance, drug paraphernalia and unsafe tires.
