Middletown, MD : Three Middletown High School students injured in single-vehicle crash on Wednesday morning, October 19, 2016

Three Middletown High School students were injured Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Hollow Road.

The crash was reported at about 7:30 a.m. in the 7900 block of Hollow Road, said Battalion Chief Kevin Fox, a spokesman for the Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services. The SUV was reported to have rolled over in the road and at least one student was thrown from the vehicle, Fox added.

Fox said there were three patients. One was flown to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore by a Maryland State Police helicopter. The other two were taken to Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

The names of the three students had not been publicly released as of Wednesday night.

In an email to parents, Principal Lee Jeffrey wrote: "As you may have heard, this morning, three of our students were involved in a traffic accident. MHS is a close and caring community; all of our thoughts and prayers are with the students and their families. We are extremely hopeful for their full and speedy recovery."

Both Brad Young, president of the Frederick County Board of Education, and Michael Doerrer, a spokesman for Frederick County Public Schools, said the school system had counselors and other resources in place for students and staff to talk to, if needed.

"As we get notice of any tragedy like this, we make sure that we have things in place for students," Young said. "I know our first efforts are to make sure that families are notified and the sheriff's office does a great job making sure they are notified as well."
