A South Jordan woman was killed and a Utah Highway Patrol trooper pinned in her vehicle following a series of crashes on state Route 201 Wednesday.
Rylee M. Larkin, 20, of South Jordan, was traveling west in a Hyundai on state Route 201 just before 7 p.m. and had entered the on-ramp to go west on I-80 when she lost control of her vehicle on the slick road and hit a concrete barrier.
Her car was then struck from behind by a Mazda SUV. The Utah Highway Patrol says Larkin was killed from the rear impact.
While troopers were investigating that accident, a Chevy Cobalt traveling "at an excessive speed," drove around the cones that were set up for traffic control and hit the driver's side of a trooper's patrol car, according to the UHP.
The trooper was pinned in her vehicle and had to be extricated. She was taken to a local hospital in fair condition with a cut to her head and leg injuries.
