Clarksburg, CA : Sacramento resident died in car crash on South River Road near Clarksburg on Saturday night, March 26, 2016

A Sacramento resident was killed after his vehicle went out of control near Clarksburg Saturday night while traveling at a high rate of speed.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Brad Carper, 53, was thrown from his 2003 Nissan Pathfinder and sustained blunt force head trauma when the vehicle overturned and rolled over a levee embankment.

Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash, officials reported.

The accident occurred around 6:52 p.m. on South River Road, just north of County Road 142 while Carper was traveling southbound. The actual rate of speed was not known, but was estimated at between 70- and 80 mph, according to a witness.

Apparently, Carper allowed the Pathfinder’s left side tires to drift off the eastern edge of the roadway and then over-corrected to get the car back to the right, lost control and veered off the road’s western edge, where it overturned and went down a levee embankment.

Along with Carper, a passenger, reported to be a 32-year-old man, was also thrown from the vehicle and suffered a lacerated spleen. A third passenger, identified as a 44-year-old woman, suffered only scrapes and scratches.

An investigation is continuing.
