Lewis, CO : Lewis bicyclist critically injured in Coastal Highway crash on Tuesday, 10th September 2019
Delaware State Police say they are investigating a "serious crash" in Lewes that sent a bicyclist to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
A 2017 Cadillac CTS, driven by an 89-year-old Millsboro man, was headed north on Coastal Highway (Del. 1) approaching Kings Highway, police said in a news release.
Police say a 79-year-old Lewes man riding a bicycle was also headed in the same general direction in the lane designated for buses and bikes.
The driver of the Cadillac failed to see the bicyclist on his right while changing lanes to make a right turn onto Kings Highway, police said.
That's when the right side of the Cadillac struck the bicycle, causing the Lewes man to be thrown from the bicycle, police said.
The Lewes man, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to the Christiana Hospital. His condition is critical, police said,
The Millsboro man was properly restrained and not injured as a result of the crash.
