Fort Worth, TX : Teenage girl dies in Texas go-kart crash on Sunday, July 20, 2014
A 14-year-old girl in Texas is dead after a crash at an amateur go-kart race Sunday.
Kierstin Eaddy was competing with other drivers in the parking lot of the Texas Motor Speedway in a race sponsored by the Sports Car Club of America, when her kart failed to stop as it crossed the finish line.
Eaddy was rushed to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, where she succumbed to her injuries.
"The girl was going past the finish line and something in her go kart failed she wasn't able to stop it and ran through the fence," Witness Nick Carnell told CBS Dallas.
"It is unknown if she lost control because of a medical reason or if there was mechanical failure," local police informed the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Although the Sports Car Club of America requires to wear helmets while competing, Eaddy's helmet came off when she drove under a low-hanging fence after the finish line.
Family remember her as a straight-A student and regular charitable volunteer.
