Florence, SC : 54-year-old man killed by rental truck on on state Highway 327 in Florence on Thursday, February 5, 2015

Troopers say a rental truck has struck and killed a pedestrian in Florence.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the U-Haul truck was driving north on state Highway 327 when it hit the man around 6:40 p.m. Thursday.

The coroner's office told local media outlets that the dead man is 54-year-old Bernard Thompson.

Authorities have not said how Thompson ended up being hit by the truck.

Troopers continue to investigate the death.
