Oxnard, CA : Female driver killed after two vehicles collided in in Oxnard on Saturday night, March 14, 2015

A female driver died at the scene of an Oxnard accident Saturday night that closed part of Ventura Road for several hours.

The woman, whose name has not yet been released, was driving a black Isuzu Rodeo south on Ventura Road around 10:35 p.m. While south of Devonshire Drive heading toward Doris Avenue, the woman’s car was traveling side-by-side with a Hyundai Accent driven by Oxnard resident Gerald Zarate, 54, the Oxnard Police Department reported.

The two vehicles collided for an unknown reason, with the woman’s SUV hitting a large tree in the center median, police say. She was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after medical personnel arrived. Zarate, who was not injured, remained at the scene.

Ventura Road was closed in both directions in the area until around 3 a.m. Sunday.

Police are still investigating. They do not yet know if alcohol or drugs were a factor.
