COLUMBIA, SC : Pedestrian hit by car in downtown Columbia has died on Wednesday, 2nd November 2016

Officers with the Columbia Police Department say a pedestrian struck by a car Wednesday night in downtown Columbia has died from his injuries.

Officers say the collision happened in the 300 block of Gervais Street just before 8:30 p.m. Police say the driver of the vehicle stopped.

The pedestrian suffered serious injuries, according to officers, and was taken to the hospital. Thursday morning police announce that the male victim died.

According to a Tweet from the Columbia Police Department, "it appears that the pedestrian was unlawfully in the roadway when he was struck."
