Batavia, OH : Two people died, Two others were injured after driver flees stop, crashes on Sunday evening July 6th 2014
Alcohol and speed were apparent factors in a crash that killed two people in southwestern Ohio after the driver fled state park officers, State Highway Patrol investigators said Monday.
Two other people were hospitalized with serious injuries.
The patrol said the crash near Stonelick State Park happened after officers from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources tried to pull a car over Sunday evening in Clermont County, just east of Cincinnati. Troopers said they were still investigating, and weren't ready to say why the ODNR officers were trying to stop the car. A request for comment was sent to the ODNR.
Police said the vehicle headed southbound on Ohio Route 727, and the driver lost control when it crested a hill. The car struck an embankment and trees, and eventually stopped off the right side of the roadway.
Two rear-seat passengers were killed, the patrol said. One was wearing his seatbelt and the other wasn't, and he was ejected. They said both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and front seat passenger were flown to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with serious injuries. The patrol said investigation was continuing, and no other details were available immediately.
