Union, OR : Two people were killed in a two-car collision at Highway 14 near West Butts Corners Road On Sunday, May 22nd, 2016

Two people, one from Madison and one from Oregon, were killed in a two-car collision Sunday afternoon in Rock County.

The crash happened at about 3:30 p.m. on Highway 14 near West Butts Corners Road in the town of Union, the Rock County Sheriff's Office said.

The victims, Cory Schuppe, 27, of Madison, and Jovanni DiMaggio, 26, of Oregon, were in the same car and both died at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The sheriff's office said a Pontiac Sunfire driven by Schuppe was northbound on Highway 14 when the vehicle went out of control on a curve. Schuppe over-corrected and went into the southbound lane, with the car being hit in the passenger's side

by an SUV driven by a 36-year-old Janesville woman.

Schuppe and DiMaggio were pinned in the vehicle, with the car catching fire.

Sheriff Robert Spoden said crews extinguished the fire on arrival and attempted medical treatment.

Highway 14 was closed for about five hours, with traffic re-routed to other roads.
