Plymouth, MA : Two people injured in a fatal crash in Plymouth on Saturday, January 21, 2017

The Massachusetts State Police issued the following statement at 3:19 p.m. Saturday:

Today at about 12:15 p.m., State Police from the Bourne Barracks responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 25 in Plymouth between exits two and three which resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Brandyn Henson indicates that a 2006 Freightliner truck was traveling on Route 25 westbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the truck traveled off the left side of the roadway and into the median before rolling over and crashing. During the rollover, the three occupants, who were all unbelted at the time of the crash, were ejected from the vehicle.

The driver, a 30-year-old man from Peabody, and one of his passengers, a 24-year-old man from Revere, were both transported by ambulance to Tobey Hospital in Wareham for treatment of serious injuries. The other passenger, a 47-year-old man from North Reading, was determined to be deceased at the scene.

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, and members assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, it is believed that one of the truck’s tires might have rapidly lost air, possibly contributing to the cause of the crash. No charges have been filed at this time.

State Police were also assisted on scene by Bourne, Plymouth, and Wareham Fire and EMS, as well as Bourne and Wareham Police. MassDOT was also on scene assisting with lane closures.
There is no additional information available at this time. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
