Golden, CO : Driver killed in wrong-way crash on I-70 near Golden on Tuesday morning, August 12, 2014
A driver who crossed from westbound to eastbound Interstate 70 was killed when their vehicle hit a truck, according to Lakewood Police Department Spokesperson Steve Davis. He was driving a tan Lexus when he collided with the gravel-hauler truck.
The driver of the Lexus was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
The wreck happened just after 10 a.m. near the Denver West exit.
Eastbound I-70 is closed between the Colfax Avenue and Denver West exits. It's not known when those lanes will reopen.
Traffic is being diverted onto Colfax Avenue. Drivers are to expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during their commute.
The road is expected to stay closed until 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
