A flame plume reached perhaps 50 feet high after a natural gas pipeline valve was hit by a car along a rural central Indiana road. Crews were able to shut off the flow of gas to the pipeline and the flame burned out after about three hours early Tuesday. Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson says the 47-year-old driver wasn't hurt in the crash that happened about 12:45 a.m. near the city of Elwood. Richardson says the driver told officers he swerved to avoid a hitting a raccoon, then went off the road and hit a roadside valve for the pipeline.
