A well-respected wrestling coach in Plains was killed in a car crash on Wednesday afternoon, leaving community members and friends in shock.
Kenny Marjerrison, 34, was pronounced dead after a head-on collision near Arlee on U.S. Highway 93.
Plains Schools Superintendent Thom Chisholm confirmed the news to the Daily Inter Lake newspaper, and numerous social media posts about Marjerrison have sprung up since the accident. Chisholm could not be reached for comment as of Thursday afternoon. The school district delayed classes for two hours on Thursday in order to have a crisis management team in place.
Marjerrison, who grew up and attended high school in Plains, served as the IT director and head coach of the Plains/Hot Springs High School Savage Horsemen wrestling team.
He leaves behind a wife and two children.
According to the Montana Highway Patrol, Marjerrison was wearing his seatbelt when, for unknown reasons, the Subaru he was driving veered into the oncoming lane and struck another vehicle almost head-on. Drugs, alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the crash.
In 2002, Marjerrison made the University of Montana Dean's List for having a 4.0 grade-point average.
