WELCH, WV : McDowell school secretary dies from injuries in single-vehicle crash on April, Wednesday 12th 2017
A McDowell County school secretary died Wednesday as a result of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash.
Jennifer Phillips, 62, of McDowell County, was traveling in the Coalwood area when her vehicle went off the road and crashed into a tree, Trooper First Class B.D. Gillespie, of the West Virginia State Police Welch detachment, said.
Gillespie said troopers were dispatched to the scene of the accident at 4:49 p.m.
“Upon arrival, it was discovered that a silver in color Chevrolet Trailblazer traveled off the roadway edge of County Route 2, over an embankment and crashed into a tree,” Gillespie said.
Gillespie said Phillips, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was transported by ambulance to Welch Community Hospital where she died from her injuries.
“According to Mrs. Phillips’ family, she was currently a secretary at the Fall River Elementary School in McDowell County,” Gillespie said.
Gillespie is the lead investigator on the case, assisted by Sgt. R.T. Stinson.
