Manatee, FL : Pedestrian dies in crash on U.S. 19 in Palmetto on Monday, August 22, 2016

A 27-year-old man was struck and killed when he darted into oncoming traffic on U.S. 19 in Palmetto, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

About 9:47 p.m. Monday, Matthew T. Hendricks was standing on the west shoulder of northbound U.S. 19 south of Bayshore Drive when he ran across the roadway and was hit by a car driven by a 37-year-old Ellenton woman heading northbound, according to a news release.

Hendricks was pronounced dead at the scene.
