Eugene, OR : Fall Creek woman dies when SUV crashes after leaving Highway 58 near Black Canyon Campground on Monday night, September 26, 2016
A Fall Creek woman was killed Monday night when her car left the pavement, struck a tree and rolled onto its top, according to Oregon State Police.
Shellie I. Williams, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Williams was driving a 1988 Honda Civic west on Highway 58. The vehicle left the pavement around 8 p.m., near Black Canyon Campground, state police said. Other drivers who saw the crash drove several miles before they could get cellphone reception and summon help.
The highway was closed for several hours during the initial crash investigation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said.
According to a Facebook page that appears to have belonged to Williams, her last post was made at noon Monday. It read, “Road trip adventure.” She added that she was “enjoying life.”
“My mom passed away last night in a vehicle accident,” Williams’ daughter, Cass Williams, wrote Tuesday in a public post on Facebook. “She was coming back from a day of adventure, the kind of adventure she had always loved doing. It’s going to be a very difficult time adjusting our lives without her. She was my children’s best friend, and without her I don’t know what we’re going to do. She has played a big part on how I’ve become the woman I am today. This is truly one of the most devastating things that I’ve ever been through. I love and miss you so much, mom.”
