Hampton,VI : Hampton officer involved in crash on April, thursday 20th 2017

Hampton officer attempting to make a traffic stop was struck by another vehicle Thursday afternoon, an official said.

The crash happened just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of Magruder Boulevard and Hardy Cash Drive, according to police spokeswoman Cpl. Ashley Jenrette.

The officer was attempting to make a left turn when he saw a traffic infraction. The officer activated his emergency equipment and attempted to stop the vehicle, but he was then struck on the passenger side by another vehicle. The impact caused the police vehicle to crash into another vehicle that was stopped at the light, Jenrette said.

The officer was not injured in the crash, she said. A person in one of the other vehicles complained of an injury, but he or she declined medical treatment, she said.

The officer's vehicle was damaged in the crash and had to be towed from the scene, she said.
