Dover, DE : Chain reaction crash kills woman south of Dover on Route 13 at the intersection of Route 13 and Longacre Drive on Saturday, 8th September 2018

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate a fatal crash in Dover.

The collision occurred at about 5:44 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8 on Route 13 at the intersection of Route 13 and Longacre Drive.

Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said the driver of a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado was headed southbound when he failed to slow for traffic that was backed up from Walnut Shade Road, about one-half mile to the south.

The result was a chain reaction involving five vehicles

Jaffe said the Silverado collided with the back of a 2009 Ford Flex, the impact forcing the Flex into the rear of a UPS truck which in turn hit a 2008 Silverado, which then hit a Buick Envision.

The UPS truck was forced into a nearby ditch, while the Flex and 2018 Silverado ended up in the left lane of Route 13. The 2008 Silverado and Envision came to controlled stops in the median.

The driver of the Ford Flex, identified as Catina Isaacs, 44, died at the scene, Jaffe said. Isaacs was not wearing a seat belt, she added.

The driver of the 2018 Silverado, a 29-year-old man from Magnolia, who was not wearing his seat belt, and the 37-year-old UPS driver were taken to Bayhealth Hospital’s Kent Campus for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

There was no evidence of impairment in any of the drivers, Jaffe said.
