Four people were seriously injured, one critically, in a five-car crash in North Amityville Sunday night after which one driver fled, Suffolk County police said Monday.
According to police, the accident happened about 8 p.m. when a 2008 BMW and a 2007 Infiniti were traveling south on New Highway at a high rate of speed and the vehicles sideswiped each other.
Police said the BMW, driven by Michael Plummer, 33, of North Amityville, left the roadway and struck a fence. The Infiniti struck the rear of a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer traveling south on New Highway, causing the Chevrolet to overturn. The Infiniti then struck two parked vehicles in front of 475 New Hwy. and the driver of the Infiniti ran off.
Police said Plummer was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with serious injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet, Junior Joachim, 32, of North Amityville, also suffered serious injuries and was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.
Joachim’s front-seat passenger, Steve Clavin, 28, who was seriously injured, and Joachim’s backseat passenger, Pierre Prophete, 23, who was critically injured, were both taken to Good Samaritan, police said.
