Socorro, NM : One person killed and another injured when a motorcycle crashed on Interstate 25 in Socorro County on Saturday, April 23, 2016

New Mexico State Police say one person was killed and another injured when a motorcycle crashed in Socorro County.

Authorities say the crash happened around 5 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 25 just south of Socorro.

According to investigators, it appears a motorcycle carrying two people was traveling northbound when windy conditions caused the driver to lose control.

As a result, the motorcycle went off the road and crashed.

The impact threw the passenger, who died at the scene.

Police say the driver was airlifted to an Albuquerque hospital and is in critical condition.

Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor.

The identity of the passenger is being withheld pending family notification.

The incident remains under investigation.
