Yoncalla,OR : Yoncalla siblings injured in crash that stalled I-5 traffic Friday on August, Friday 25th 2017
A Yoncalla brother and sister are being treated at a Springfield hospital following a crash Friday evening on Interstate 5 south of Cottage Grove.
The two were injured in one of two crashes south of Cottage Grove that created bumper-to-bumper traffic on northbound and southbound Interstate 5 for several hours Friday evening.
The first crash was reported at 5:23 p.m. Friday. It was on southbound Interstate 5 at milepost 168, six miles south of Cottage Grove, and involved a truck and travel trailer that had rolled over. The second was reported at 6:07 p.m. two miles further south in the northbound lanes. Eyewitnesses said the second accident involved a truck pulling a horse trailer that collided with an Umpqua Dairy semi truck.
The North Douglas County Fire Department responded to the scene of the first accident, where they extricated a patient from the vehicle, and then to the second where two patients were extricated from a vehicle. They also set up a landing zone for two Life Flight Air Ambulances that transported the patients to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield.
