Fishkill, NY : One person died, two injured in collision on I-84 in Hudson Valley on Tuesday, Sep 22, 2015

State police are trying to determine what caused the driver of a sport utility vehicle to veer across the median of Interstate 84 in the Hudson Valley and collide with a tractor-trailer, killing a passenger in the SUV.

Troopers say the SUV was traveling in I-84's westbound lanes around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday when it crossed into the center grassy median and drove into the path of an eastbound truck near the interchange with Route 9 in the Dutchess County town of Fishkill.

The SUV's driver is in critical condition at Westchester Medical Center. A passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Their names haven't been released.

The truck driver was treated for minor injuries.

The crash shut down I-84's eastbound lanes were for several hours.
