Lincoln, NE : North Platte infant dies in Logan County crash on Friday, February 3rd 2017
The investigation continues into the circumstances of a North Platte infant’s death in a two-vehicle collision in Logan County on Friday, Feb. 3.
According to Logan County Sheriff Sean Carson, at 7:14 a.m. that morning, a 2002 Chevrolet Impala driven by Matthew Plunk of North Platte was traveling east on Neb. Highway 92 in the hills between Stapleton and Arnold when his car hit a deer.
The car then slid sideways into the westbound lane, where it was hit by a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Allison Rosentrater of Arnold.
Plunk’s daughter, eight-month-old Isabella Plunk, was ejected from her car seat and through a window of the car, according to Carson. The infant was flown to Great Plains Health where she was later pronounced dead.
Plunk and his passenger Stacy Shannon as well as Rosentrater were also treated for injuries, Carson said.
He added the status of the car seat at the time of the accident is still under investigation. In an online statement, Carson urged the public not to judge the parents until the facts are known.
He told the Bulletin Monday that he and Nebraska State Patrol investigators would visit with members of Plunk’s immediate family within the next “48 or 72 hours.”
