Pittsburgh, PA : Wrong-way crash kills 2 woman driving on Pittsburgh highway on Thursday, April 6, 2017
Pittsburgh police say two women have died following a crash involving a wrong-way driver on one of the city’s busies highways.
Police didn’t immediately release the names of either driver — both 24-year-old women — involved in the crash on Route 28 shortly after 3:30 a.m. Thursday.
Police say the wrong-way driver was in a Kia that was traveling outbound from the city when it struck a Honda driving in the inbound lanes.
The Kia’s driver died at Allegheny General Hospital. The driver of the Honda was in critical condition, but died hours later.
Police closed the inbound lanes of the highway creating pre-dawn traffic jams on one of the busiest arteries into and out of the city. Route 28 connects the city with its northeast suburbs.
