Colorado Springs, CO : 66-year-old woman hit and killed by a car in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Fountain on Monday morning, March 16, 2015

Jenny M. Carrillo, the 66-year-old woman who died after being hit in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Fountain Monday, was struck by a woman driving a vehicle she stole from her parents, according to an arrest affidavit.

Fountain police records show Rebecca Jeanette Champigny, 27, took the gray 2015 Hyundai Sonata from the home on Belmont Street in El Paso County, where she lives with her parents, Ernest and Joann.

Ernest Champigny told police his daughter is not allowed to drive the vehicle because she does not have a driver's license, the affidavit said. She has a history of taking items from the residence without permission, he told police. The key to the vehicle is kept in a jewelry box in the master bedroom, where Rebecca is not allowed. Although the door is normally locked, Ernest Champigny said he forgot to lock it that day, the affidavit said.

Rebecca Champigny fled the scene after allegedly hitting Carrillo, who was walking in the pedestrian walkway in front of the store, shortly after 11 a.m.

Witnesses told police that Champigny's vehicle attempted to pass another car that had stopped for pedestrians, hit that vehicle, then hit Carrillo, the affidavit said.

Champigny's vehicle then left the parking lot, ran a stop sign at the exit, jumped a curb and hit another vehicle in a parking lot in a dentist's office on Plaza Boulevard, according to witnesses.

Champigny also gave police a false name and date of birth several times, the report states. She gave the name of her mother, Joann Champigny. The vehicle she struck at Plaza Boulevard belongs to Cynthia Bell, who was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Carrillo sustained "serious bodily injury," including "serious head trauma," and died at Memorial Hospital about 5:30 p.m. Monday, the affidavit said.

Champigny was arrested on suspicion of aggravated motor vehicle theft, vehicular homicide, fleeing the scene of an accident and attempt to influence a public servant. Her bond was set at $100,000, which had not been posted as of Wednesday. Her first court appearance is scheduled for March 27.
