MESA, AZ : 1 dead in crash involving Valley Metro bus in Mesa on Saturday, 9th March 2024

A person died this Saturday morning after a multi-vehicle crash involving a Valley Metro bus in Mesa.

Emergency crews were called to an area near Gilbert Road and Southern Avenue around 5:40 a.m., where they found a passenger car, truck, and Valley Metro bus involved in the collision. The driver of the car died, and there were no reports of injuries from anyone in the truck and bus.

Police say the car driver was going east on Southern Avenue and crossed the center line into westbound traffic. The driver collided head-on with the bus, spun out and hit the truck.

The area was closed off while police investigated the crash, but the area has mostly reopened, except for westbound Southern Avenue, which is still closed. The name of the deceased driver has not been made available. It’s unknown if drugs, alcohol or speeding were factors in the crash.
