Billings, MT : Motorcyclist dies after crashing into building on Sixth Avenue North Monday afternoon on September 29, 2014
A motorcyclist died on Monday afternoon after crashing into a building on Sixth Avenue North.
The crash happened at about 3:45 p.m.
Billings Police Sgt. Scott Conrad said that life-saving efforts were performed, but the man was pronounced dead at 4:26 p.m. at Billings Clinic.
Initial reports indicate the 26-year-old motorcyclist was speeding westbound on Sixth, possibly racing another vehicle, when he lost control, Conrad said.
The motorcycle hit the north curb and threw the rider, who crashed into the eastern wall of Tom’s Service and Repair Shop, 1111 Sixth Ave. N. The motorcycle continued along the north sidewalk before crashing into a grouping of lawnmowers outside of the building on Sixth.
Police are looking for the car reportedly racing the motorcycle — a blue or dark blue early 2000’s Honda Civic. The car is a two-door hatchback with chrome wheels, tinted windows and a loud muffler.
Emergency crews treated the man before loading him into a waiting American Medical Response ambulance. The Billings Fire Department also responded to the crash site.
Conrad said the man was wearing a helmet and that the investigation into the crash continues. Police did not know if alcohol played a role in the accident.
