Cape Coral,FL : Cape woman injured in crash dies in hospital on June, Thursday 15th 2017
An elderly woman has died in the hospital after a crash more than a month ago on Cape Coral Parkway.
Maria Pando, 86, of Cape Coral, passed away Thursday morning.
She had been in the hospital since the May 3rd crash that also seriously injured her passenger, 88-year-old William Pando.
It happened at the intersection of Cape Coral Parkway E. and Palm Tree Boulevard between four cars.
Police said Pando was stopped at a red light when she suddenly accelerated and lost control of the Chevy Sonic she was driving.
The car traveled into the opposite lanes where several cars were stopped or beginning to stop for a red light.
Pando's vehicle slammed into a Kia Soul, which then rolled onto its side and hit a Ford SUV. Pando's vehicle also collided with a Jeep.
Pando was transported to the hospital as a trauma alert, along with her passenger, who suffered serious injuries.
The driver and passenger in the Kia SUV were minorly injured, while all overs involved did not get hurt.
It is unclear why Pando suddenly accelerated. Police said alcohol or drugs were NOT a factor in the crash.
