LAS VEGAS, NV : North Las Vegas detective recalled as kind public servant on Tuesday, January 17th 2017

A North Las Vegas police detective who was killed in an on-duty vehicle crash was remembered Tuesday as a dedicated officer who cared deeply for his community.

From the day he started, Chad Parque quickly developed a reputation as a go-getter and an unrelenting fighter for victims, North Las Vegas Police Chief Alex Perez told mourners at Parque’s funeral, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported (http://bit.ly/2juafhP ).

Hundreds of friends, police and family members turned out for the service at Central Christian Church in Henderson, where a long police motorcade led to and from Palm Mortuary in northwest Las Vegas.

Parque was 32, a 10-year police veteran, and a husband and father.

Perez said Parque’s kindness showed when he arrested young people and didn’t just take them to jail, but sat and talked with them about turning their life around.

Parque was leaving North Las Vegas Justice Court in a department car Jan. 6 when he collided with a wrong-way driver on busy Martin Luther King Boulevard, police said. He died at a hospital the following day.

Parque was the third North Las Vegas police officer killed in the line of duty since the department started in 1946.

Officer Raul Paul Elizondo was shot and killed in January 1995 by a gunman who police say later killed himself. Officer James Slagle died in a November 1973 car crash while police say he chased three robbery suspects.
