A Jefferson City man was killed after his car ran off the road early Friday morning.

47-year-old Derek Schrimpf was killed after his GMC Sierra ran off the road on Highway 54, near Shepherd Hills Road around 12:15 a.m.

Schrimpf was thrown from the vehicle after it struck a guardrail and overturned.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A crash report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol says Schrimpf was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
