A Pennsylvania man was killed Sunday night in a head-on collision on Interstate 70 near Hancock.
Maryland State Police said Larry Allen Martz, 50, of Mayport, Pa., was driving his 1996 Pontiac Bonneville westbound on I-70 in the eastbound lanes when he collided head-on with a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Brian Christopher Chatfield, 27, of Silver City, N.C.
Police said Martz was traveling the wrong way on the road for about four miles when the collision occurred west of the 1-mile marker on I-70 near Interstate 68 at about 8:30 p.m. He was flown to Meritus Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Chatfield and two passengers in the Silverado — Clarence Hobbs, 44, of Newark, Del., and Joshua Theodore Walls, 25, of Baltimore — were treated at the scene and released.
Police said the eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed until about 11:15 p.m.
