Bismarck, ND: victim of flaming crash on Illinois 1 near Bismarck on Monday, 17th December 2018

The coroner has identified the victim of morning's head-on crash on Illinois 1 near Bismarck.

The Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden said the victim was James D. Callahan, 47, of Hoopeston.

The crash happened south of County Road 2820 N, about a mile north of Bismarck.State police said Mr. Callahan was driving south when his car veered into the northbound lane and smashed into a second car head-on.

His car reportedly flipped over and became engulfed in flames while the second car came to a stop on the highway.

"An autopsy was performed on Saturday," McFadden said. "Mr. Callahan's family has been notified, and no information is available as to the condition of the driver of the other vehicle involved."

The Illinois State Police and the Vermilion County Coroner's office are investigating the accident.
