Washington County, VA: Tractor-trailer crash causing traffic congestion in Abingdon on Sunday, August 2nd 2015

Traffic is backed up on I-81 southbound and in downtown Abingdon following a tractor-trailer crash between exits 17 and 19.Abingdon Police Department officials report that the tractor and trailer disconnected in the incident, and the trailer landed upside down in the median.Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said troopers were called at 8:26 a.m. to the single-vehicle crash. The tractor-trailer had overturned, she said.The adult male driver was not injured.Speaking just before 11 a.m., Geller said it will take at least two more hours to clean up and remove the truck.As a result, the left southbound lane is closed. Some traffic is exiting at 19 and using Main Street through downtown.At 11:30 a.m., southbound 81 traffic was backed up about six miles.Due to congestion in town, the 11 a.m. Shriners Parade, held in conjunction with the Virginia Highlands Festival, has been canceled. The week-long Highlands Festival opened this weekend.
