Honolulu, HI : One bicyclist Critically injured after being hit by a car driven by a Honolulu Police officer alon Ala Moana Boulevard near Kamakee Street on Sunday ,April 5th 2015

A bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car driven by a Honolulu Police officer.

It happened just after 5:30 am Sunday on Ala Moana Boulevard near Kamakee Street.

Police say the bicyclist, believed to be in his 20's or 30's, did not have the right of way and was not in a crosswalk when he entered the road.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

He was not wearing a helmet

Police say the 47-year old officer, a 16-year veteran of the force, was off-duty at the time and had the green light.

Police have opened a first degree negligent injury case.
