Gadsden, AL : Retired Etowah deputy killed in car crash on Thursday night, May 19, 2016

A retired Etowah County Sheriff's deputy was killed in a single- vehicle crash Thursday night in the 1200 block of Tidmore Bend Road.

James "Jim" Finley, 67, was driving north on Tidmore Bend Road at about 7:30 p.m. when his Ford Crew Cab truck went off the right side of the road, and overcorrected when it came back onto the road way.

The truck traveled about 170 feet off the road and struck a gas main, flipped and landed on its roof.

Finley was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gadsden police blocked off an area around the wreck site until Alagasco crews could come out and repair the gas main.
