Maryville, TN : Teenager killed and another one injured in a single-car crash on East Lamar Alexander Parkway early Sunday morning, July 24, 2016

A teenager was killed and another one injured in a single-car crash on East Lamar Alexander Parkway in Townsend early Sunday morning, according to the Townsend Fire Department.

The names of the victims were not available Sunday evening. But Townsend Fire Chief Don Stallions confirmed that one of the vehicle’s occupants, a local resident in his mid-to-late teens, was killed when the Toyota 4Runner he was driving flipped, struck a tree, caught fire and landed in a nearby driveway on its side.

The other occupant of the vehicle, a girl in her mid-teens, was able to free herself and exit the vehicle before authorities arrived on the scene.

Townsend Fire officials received word of the accident at 4:14 a.m., Stallions said, and made it to the scene five minutes later. When they arrived, Stallions said the 4Runner was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze but discovered the driver was already dead on the scene, Stallions said.

Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to the accident, but its report, including the names of victims, was not available Sunday evening.
