PLAINFIELD, IN : 1 dead after semi vs car crash along I-70 on Sunday, 15th November, 2020

One woman was killed and another woman was injured during a crash early Sunday morning involving a passenger car and a semi-tractor trailer on I-70, near the Plainfield Exit, according to Indiana State Police.

Responders were called to the crash scene in the east bound lanes of I-70 at the 67.7 mile marker at about 3:20 a.m.

They arrived to find a woman lying on the ground unconscious and unresponsive. Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released.

Authorities say another woman was injured but alert and conscious. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

State police say a preliminary crash investigation shows that the driver of the semi-tractor trailer had pulled over to the right shoulder, out of the roadway. The passenger car collided with the rear end of the semi a short time later, and one woman was ejected upon collision. ISP noted that weather and road conditions are believed to have contributed to this crash as there was heavy rain in the area at the time.

Police do not believe alcohol was a contributing factor, but both drivers were tested for alcohol per Indiana State Law. Those results are pending.

An invesitgation into the crash is ongoing.

The right two lanes of I-70 were closed for nearly five hours but have since reopened, according to state police.
