Aberdeen,WA : Aberdeen mom, daughter seriously injured in State Street crash on February, Tuesday 6th 2018
A mother and her 22-year-old daughter from Aberdeen suffered serious injuries Tuesday when the car the 51-year-old mother was driving ran the stop sign at State Street and H Street and crashed into a jersey barrier, according to a report from Aberdeen Police Lt. C.J. Chastain.
Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was eastbound on the separated side of State Street next to the State Street on-ramp. Chastain said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed.
“After failing to stop for the stop sign and crossing H Street, the vehicle failed to negotiate a tight northbound bend in the roadway, jumped the curb and crossed the large gravel area between H and G streets,” said Chastain. “The vehicle was in a slight northeasterly bend as it crossed the gravel lot before striking a 2,400-pound jersey barrier. The impact vaulted and rolled the Civic counterclockwise in the air, and the passenger was ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle continued eastbound striking a Department of Transportation fence before coming to rest on its wheels facing southbound below the northbound Chehalis River Bridge downgrade to Heron Street.”
Police were called at about 11 a.m. They arrived to find the mother still inside the car and the daughter on the ground nearby, where witnesses were tending to her. Both were treated at the scene and quickly rushed to Grays Harbor Community Hospital and eventually airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Harborview Spokeswoman Susan Gregg-Hanson said Wednesday afternoon the mother was in satisfactory condition while the daughter is in serious condition in the intensive care unit.
The roadway was partially blocked for about three hours during the investigation, which is ongoing.
