An 18-year-old woman who recently graduated from high school was killed in a crash that happened Friday morning east of Hamilton elementary and middle schools.
Camesha Lawrence, 21, stopped at a stop sign on Ethlyn Avenue, then continued to cross Silver Street. As she drove through the intersection, her car was hit by a another vehicle, which had the right of way.
Kanisha Clarke, who was sitting in the backseat of the car, died shortly after being taken to the hospital. She graduated from Hamilton High School on Thursday.
"[I went] to my niece's graduation not knowing that yesterday would be the last day that I'd see her," Clarke's aunt, Tywanna Lynne Clarke, said.
Family and friends arrived at the crash site to make a memorial for the teen.
"You can be here one second, and the next second you're gone just like that," Laderro Gordon said.
Lawrence is charged with failure to yield the right of way resulting in death. She is also facing charges for not having a driver's license or insurance.
The driver of the second vehicle, Martaz Paige, 28, is also charged with not having a valid license or insurance.
Lawrence and Paige were both arrested.
Friends of Kanisha Clarke are planning a candlelight vigil on Monday at Hamilton High School at 6 p.m.
