Fredericksburg, VA : 24-year-old Spotsylvania woman died in a crash on State Route 3 on Tuesday, 15th May 2018

A 24-year-old Spotsylvania woman died in a Tuesday afternoon crash on State Route 3.

The crash happened about 3 p.m. when a small-sized Mazda car made a left turn from Route 3 to Orange Plank Road in western Spotsylvania, according to Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office Lt. C.A. Carey.

An eastbound flatbed supply truck hit the Mazda, sending both vehicles into the median. Police said it appears the Mazda driver turned when the turn signal was a flashing arrow, meaning she should have yielded to oncoming traffic.

Jennifer Goonan, who was driving the Mazda, died at the scene.

The driver of the truck was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Carey said.

The crash snarled traffic on Route 3 for several hours, with all eastbound lanes closed for a time and only a single lane open westbound.

The accident remains under investigation.
