A 9-year-old girl was injured Wednesday night when she was thrown from a vehicle in a crash.
The girl was in a Ford Expedition with her mother and four other children when the 73-year-old driver of a pickup truck ran a stop sign at the intersection of 800 South and 500 West about 8:30 p.m., according to Salt Lake police.
The two vehicles collided and the girl, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the SUV, police said.
The girl was taken to Primary Children's Hospital in critical condition and was later upgraded. The mother and four other children in the SUV sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the truck was cited for failure to stop at the sign, while the girl's mother was cited for not having her daughter in a seat belt, police said.
