Ypsilanti, MI : Bike-van crash in Bay City neighborhood sends man to hospital on Friday, 26th August, 2016

A man is being treated for minor injuries after his motorized bicycle collided with a minivan in an East Side Bay City neighborhood.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, a man on a mountain bike equipped with a small motor was traveling northbound on Lincoln Street when a car traveling southbound on the street attempted a turn eastbound onto 10th street. The two vehicles collided, said Bay City Public Safety officials at the scene.

The man on the bicycle wasn't wearing a helmet. He was transported to McLaren Bay Region for minor injuries, police said. The crash remains under investigation.

The incident was only a couple blocks away from where a fatal bike-car crash occurred last month at Lincoln Street and Columbus Avenue. Kevin Matthews died a day after he ran a red light at the intersection and was struck by a vehicle heading west on Columbus Avenue.
